What is a Self-Repairing High Speed Door?

Self-Repairing High-Speed Doors, also known as zip-style self-repairing high-speed roller doors and commonly referred to as impact-resistant high-speed doors, are flexible industrial high-speed doors specifically designed for passageways with high-frequency traffic from forklift trucks and lorries.

How the Self-Repairing High Speed Door Works

The collision-resistant reset mechanism is achieved through a flexible, interlocking track system utilising a ‘zipper’ mechanism; the entire process is fully automated and requires no manual intervention:

Impact-induced Derailment

The curtain features a toothed zip-like structure on both sides, which engages flexibly with the grooves in the guide rails; when a forklift collides with the door, the impact causes the teeth to automatically disengage from the rails, whilst the flexible PVC curtain absorbs the impact force, ensuring that neither the curtain, the rails nor the motor suffer any rigid breakage or deformation.

Automatic Reset

A guide reset wheel is built into the top of the guide rail. When the door is triggered to rise again, the guide wheel automatically re-engages the teeth on both sides into the guide rail grooves. Full reset is completed within 10–20 seconds, restoring the seal and normal operation without the need for maintenance personnel or replacement parts.

Tensioning and Cushioning Assistance

The guide rails are fitted with an elastic tensioning mechanism. In the event of derailment, the mechanism releases a cushioning force; upon repositioning, it automatically tightens the chain, ensuring a gap-free seal during daily operation.

Structural Components of the Self-Repairing High Speed Door

Flexible Impact-Resistant Door Curtain

Material: High-density polyester fibre + double-sided PVC coating, thickness 1.2–2.5 mm; tear-resistant, ageing-resistant and low-temperature resistant; a thickened, cold-resistant and flame-retardant fabric is available for cold store applications

Structure: One-piece flexible curtain with no metal crossbars; moulded-in zip teeth on both sides (impact-absorbing core); a long, transparent PVC viewing window can be fitted in the centre to facilitate observation of people and vehicles on the other side

Available colours: Blue, red, yellow, white, grey, orange

Advantages: The soft structure prevents damage to forklift trucks and goods upon impact, and is highly resistant to tearing

Specialised Zipper-Style Guide Rail

Material: Anodised aluminium alloy / 304 stainless steel; corrosion-resistant and distortion-free

Differences from standard brush guide rails: The internal grooves are designed to fit the teeth of the zip; the system remains fully enclosed during normal operation, but the components disengage freely upon impact, whereas brush guide rails become jammed after an impact and cannot be reset

Components: Top-mounted return guide roller, bottom-mounted elastic tensioner, side dust-proof sealing strips

Drive Motor and Variable Frequency Control System

Motor: 0.75–1.5 kW servo / variable frequency brake motor, IP65 waterproof and dustproof, capable of continuous high-frequency start-stop operation, with no issues operating up to 500 cycles per day

Control Cabinet: IP54-rated variable frequency control cabinet, featuring an emergency stop button, manual control buttons, fault alarms and an automatic reset programme

Opening and Closing Speeds: Opening 0.8–2.0 m/s, closing 0.7–1.2 m/s; high speeds minimise air convection, saving energy and maintaining thermal insulation

Multi-layered Safety Protection System

Bottom Airbag: Flexible pressure-sensitive strips at the base of the door; the door immediately rebounds upwards if it encounters a person or goods whilst descending

Full-height Infrared Safety Light Curtain: Spanning both sides of the door; if the light beam is interrupted, the door immediately stops rising

Emergency stop button and manual release lever for power failure

Operating warning light and buzzer to alert passing vehicles

Door Covers, Bottom Rails and Sealing Fittings

Top aluminium alloy / stainless steel door cover, which houses the rolled-up door curtain, providing dust protection and an attractive appearance

Bottom EPDM rubber flexible bottom rail, which fits snugly against the floor to provide a seal that blocks draughts and dust

Sealing strips around the perimeter, once the zips are fastened, the airtightness rating is significantly higher than that of standard high-speed doors

Self-Repairing High Speed Door Configuration Options

Enable Customisation Options

Can be freely configured to suit workshop environments:

Basic: Manual push-button, wireless remote control

Preferred for logistics access: Magnetic loop detection (doors open automatically when a forklift passes over them), microwave radar detection

Cleanrooms / Staff access: Photoelectric sensors, pull-cord switches

Smart factory premises: Bluetooth access control, RFID card swiping, facial recognition, PLC equipment integration (assembly line interlocking)

Self-Repairing High Speed Door Routine maintenance

Clean dust from the guide rail and zip channels monthly to prevent foreign objects from interfering with the retraction mechanism;

Check the sensitivity of the bottom safety airbag and the infrared light curtain quarterly;

Apply a small amount of lubricant to the motor chain and keep the control box dry;

Stains on the door curtain can be wiped off with clean water; damaged areas can be repaired with patches, and there is no need to replace the entire curtain.

Self-Repairing High Speed Door Application scenarios

Logistics and Warehousing

Warehouse loading bays, sorting aisles, high-traffic forklift access points and distribution centres—where lorries and pallet trucks pass through frequently—have the highest probability of collisions, making the anti-collision reset function most valuable.

Food and Pharmaceutical Cleanrooms

Baking, meat processing, pharmaceutical and medical device production areas require dust-free, temperature-controlled and pest-proof environments; the high-seal zipped doors meet cleanliness standards, whilst forklift operations can continue without fear of door collisions causing production stoppages.

Cold Chain Cold Stores and Constant-Temperature Workshops

Refrigerated stores, fresh-keeping stores and constant-temperature processing areas minimise cold air leakage and reduce energy consumption; cold-resistant door curtains remain crack-free even at low temperatures.

Electronics, Automotive and New Energy Factories

In dust-free assembly workshops and component transfer corridors, they isolate dust from inside and outside the workshop, protecting precision components.

Chemical and Printing Plants

They isolate odours, dust and fumes; high-speed opening and closing minimises gas diffusion, and flame-retardant soft door curtains are available as an option.

The Self-Repairing High-Speed Door is designed to automatically derail and reset following an impact, thereby addressing the industry-wide challenges associated with conventional high-speed doors—such as deformation, track jamming, downtime for repairs, and production stoppages resulting in lost working hours.
